Production
Industrially, methyl acetate is primarily produced via the esterification of acetic acid with methanol. It is also generated as a by-product in the carbonylation of methanol to produce acetic acid, as well as in the manufacturing processes for terephthalic acid (PTA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).

Surface Cleaning:
Due to its rapid evaporation and hydrophobicity, methyl acetate is an effective solvent in surface cleaners. It evaporates quickly without attracting airborne contaminants. Other Uses:
It acts as a solvent in fast-drying adhesives, which are made by dissolving rubber and resin into methyl acetate. Upon application, the solvent evaporates rapidly, causing the adhesive to set and bond.
